Police net B2m ya ba from sting operation

PATHUM THANI — Police arrested two drug traders on Thursday with almost 13,000 ya ba pills worth at least 2 million baht on the streets.

Jakkranapong Srisakaew, 28, and Ratchani Intarasorn, 29, did not realise that they were being targeted by Pak Khlong Rangsit police officers who ordered them to deliver methamphetamine pills at a roadside location in Muang district.

After police showed up at the meeting point, the two tried to escape by slamming their sedan into the police vehicle, prompting officers to fire bullets at the tyres. They found 200 ya ba tablets in the car and about 12,800 more and 103 grammes of crystal meth in a subsequent search at their apartment room in Pakkret district.

The seized drugs could be sold for at least 2 million baht on the streets, according to police.

Pol Lt Col Ratthapong Sujarit, deputy chief of Pak Khlong Rangsit police station, said drug traders and traffickers were up their activities during the Songkran holidays, when police are turning their attention to direct traffics and prevent road accidents.

Mum, son arrested, B20m meth seized in Bangkok

A company messenger and his mother were arrested and 212,000 speed pills, worth about 20 million baht, seized from their room in Bangkok’s Chong Nonsi area on Monday morning.

Kriangkrai Suchinda, 32, and his mother Taew Suchina, 61, were detained when Thung Mahamek police, soldiers and drug suppression police raided their room at the workers’ living quarters in the compound of a company near Liab Thang Rodduan Chue Ploeng community in Chon Nonsi of Yannawa district about 9am on Monday.

A search uncovered 212,000 methamphetamine pills. Three mobile phones were also seized as evidence, Thai media reported.

Pol Maj Gen Somprasong Yenthuam, chief of the Metropolitan Police Bureau's division 5, said the raid followed a tip-off from a police informant.

Mr Kriangkrai allegedly confessed his room was a storage point for methamphetamine pills. He claimed the drugs belonged to someone who always helped his family and he stored them to show his gratitude. He declined to reveal the name of his patron.

Pol Col Ratchapol Chanasrikhachorn, Thung Mahaek police chief, said Mr Kriangkrai worked as a company messenger. Mrs Taew was not emloyed. Their living quarters belonged to another firm, where Mrs Taew’s husband had worked before he died.

Mr Kriangkrai initially confessed to the drug charges, while his mother denied any knowledge, said Pol Col Ratchapol.

The duo were charged with having illicit drugs in their possession with intent to sell. Police were extending the investigation to find others involved.

5 tied to drug kingpin Yi Se arrested in Chachoengsao

Five suspected drug traffickers linked to Myanmar narcotics kingpin Lt Col Yi Se have been arrested in Chachoengsao with authorities seizing 200,000 methamphetamine tablets.

Chanthayaporn Khunnaen, 53, Pisit Khongpao, 44,Khanchai Maomeesee, 34, Thotsapol Ngam-osa, 37, and Sarawut Tiyawat, 32, were caught separately in the eastern province on Wednesday afternoon and taken for a news conference at the Narcotics Suppression Bureau on Thursday.

Seized from them were 100 bundles of speed pills, two cars and six mobile phones.

NSB commissioner Pol Lt Col Rewat Klinsesorn said the arrests followed information that the suspects were involved in illicit drug trade in the East. A police officer later posed as a drug buyer to contact the gang for the purchase of drugs worth 7.5 million baht.

The gang had asked the buyer to bring the money to the Robinson department store's Chachoengsao mall branch on Wednesday afternoon. Ms Chanthayaporn and three suspects showed up allegedly to receive the money before asking the buyer to pick up the drugs from Mr Sarawut on Riam Thang Duan Road off the Bangkok-Chon Buri motorway in Bang Pakong district of Chachoengsao. Police then moved in to arrest the suspects.

Pol Lt Gen Rewat said the suspects were members of a drug network linked to Myanmar drug gang leader Lt Col Yi Se.

The confiscated drugs had been smuggled from the North into the East for sale in Chon Buri and Rayong, said the NSB chief.

The investigation would be extended to find more suspects in the illicit drug trade, he said.

3 caught in Tak with 30kg of crystal meth

TAK - A Thai man and two Myanmar women have been arrested and 30kg of crystal methamphetamine seized from them in Mae Sot district.

The trio were apprehended in this northern border province on Monday by a combined team of narcotics suppression officers, local police and soldiers, police said.

The Thai man was named as Apirot Khireepongsakorn of Tak’s Tha Song Yang district. The two Myanmar women had yet to be identified.

The arrests came after police posing as buyers contacted a drug gang and arranged to buy 30kg of crystal meth for 22 million baht. The drugs were smuggled from Myanmar across the Moei River to a cargo pier in tambon Mae Pa in Mae Sot district.

The suspects were taken to the Narcotics Suppression Bureau in Bangkok.

CSD officer, 4 others caught with 600,000 meth pills

A Crime Suppression Division police officer and three accomplices have been arrested with 600,000 methamphetamine pills in the Rangsit area, Pathum Thani province.

In a joint operation of Narcotics Suppression Bureau (NSB) police and the Office of the Narcotics Control Board, police rounded up four suspects at the parking lot of the Rangsit branch of Tesco Lotus on Phahon Yothin road in Thanya Buri district on Tuesday.

Pol Lt Gen Rewat Klinkesorn, the NSB commissioner, identified the four as Pol Sgt Maj Suchart Kraikaew, 44, an officer of the CSD's 5th Sub-Division; Supakit Ladawat, 25, of Nakhon Si Thammarat; Orapan Jintapan, 27, of Surat Thani; and Saranya Phiewnimnuan, 26, of Nakhon Si Thammarat.

The officers seized 600,000 methamphetamine pills and a Nissan Teana sedan.

Pol Sgt Maj Suchart had been under watch on suspicion of being involved in the drug trade as ordered by Pol Col Phumin Poompanmuang, commander of the CSD's 5th Sub-Division, said Pol Lt Gen Rewat.

He said the CSD officer confessed to having been hired to receive the drugs, which were smuggled from a neighbouring country, through the Northeast. From Pathum Thani, he would deliver the drugs to Sungai Kolok, Narathiwat. From there, the drugs would be smuggled across the border into Malaysia.

Two teens hired to smuggle 400,000 yaba pills

CHIANG RAI — Two tribal teenagers hired to smuggle illicit drugs were arrested and 400,000 speed pills seized from their travelling bags on a Bangkok-bound tour bus, which was stopped for a search in Chiang Rai late Thursday night.

Local police stopped a Chiang Rai-Bangkok interprovincial passenger bus at a road checkpoint in tambon Dong Mada in Mae Lao district of this northern province at around 9.30pm on Thursday following information that a trafficker would smuggle a large quantity of drugs into Bangkok via a passenger bus.

The officers searched the vehicle and saw two male teenagers, aged 15, acting suspiciously. They then checked their two bags in the luggage compartment of the bus and found many packages of drugs inside them, each containing 200,000 speed pills or 400,000 pills in total.

The duo, who were tribal teenagers, confessed they had picked up the drugs from a friend at a border area in Mae Sai district. The drugs would be sent to Ayutthaya, where someone would later come to smuggle them into Bangkok. If the drugs were sucessfully delivered, they would receive 300,000 baht for the job, said the suspects.

They admitted they had previously been hired to smuggle illicit drugs before being arrested.
